The stages of ringworm are slightly different in appearance depending on where the infection is on the body. A ringworm infection on the scalp may not look like a ringworm infection on the skin. However, it is important to known the symptoms so that if you recognize one, you can find a ringworm cure and start treatment immediately.
Generally speaking, the first signs of any ringworm infection will be a slight itching or burning sensation. It is very difficult to conclude that you have a ringworm infection at this stage since slightly itchy skin is not uncommon. The second stage will more than likely be some type of inflammation on the skin or scalp that look red and perhaps flaky. This is certainly true of athlete’s foot where the skin around the toes will been flaky and begin to peel. Ringworm of the skin will show itself in the form of a circular red inflamed area and if this is seen, there is no doubt that it is a ringworm infection. In other words, a red raised rash-looking pattern is almost certainly ringworm of the skin.
The secondary stages of most ringworm infections are marked by small blisters or bumps on the skin that are often quite itchy. This area should not be scratched however because that can lead to worsening the infection or spreading it to other parts of your body. Think of it as poison oak and simply apply a topical ringworm cure, leave the infection alone and let the medicine do the work. With ringworm of the scalp, there may be some slight hair loss in the area and the skin on the scalp will feel dry and flaky. Jock itch, a form of fungal infection found around the groin area, is quite easy to diagnose because the skin will become very dry and itchy quite fast. If you notice any of these secondary symptoms, begin treatment with a topical cream as soon as possible.
While the infection heals, the area in question will begin to dry up and the redness will subside. It is not uncommon for the skin around the infection to peel which is simply the body’s response to shedding dead skin tissue. Know the symptoms and stages of ringworm so you can apply a ringworm cure at the earliest possible time and shorten the time that the infection is active.
